My blog, The Truth Behind Cheerleading, is about the wonderful world of cheerleading, and, even more than that, the truth behind the sport. Anybody that participates in the sport knows that it’s not just flirts in skirts, but we have to show the rest of the world what we’re really made of! My blog examines three areas lying beneath the truth behind cheerleading: Stunting, Cheerleading is a Sport, and The Mental Effects of Cheerleading. Although many of you may not know, cheerleading is serious business and I’m here to spread the truth: cheerleading is not what you think it is! Or, to be completely correct, its way more than you ever thought it could be. Within each individual section of my blog, I have expressed my opinions about the sport of cheerleading by sharing personal stories and real life events that have happened to me throughout my cheerleading days from the eighth grade to the end of high school. I have firsthand experience about the cruelty of others towards the sport of cheerleading and all of the ridicule that comes along with being a cheerleader which makes my blog not only personal, but factual as well. A lot of my heart and soul is poured into this blog, and I commend anybody, cheerleader or not, that takes the time to inform themselves on this topic, and I would like to say a personal THANK YOU to all of you that take the time to hear my out! My sources mostly came from YouTube videos of cheerleaders performing stunts and different routines, and a few of my sources came from articles that I read online about the stereotypes that cheerleaders have to face. A lot of my sources were tied into prejudice behaviors and ideas, because I feel that some of the attitudes towards the sport can definitely be identified as being prejudice.
On my tab dedicated to “Stunting,” I went into depth about how the actual stunting part of cheerleading is what makes it eligible to even be a sport, with the agility, speed and preciseness that goes a long with stunts cheerleaders are really put the test. Without stunting, I feel that cheerleading actually has the right to be questioned as a sport, but I highlighted in detail the basics of stunting and how this can affect cheerleading overall.
Likewise, on the tab dedicated to “The Mental Effects Behind Cheerleading,” I described my opinion on how the football players at games are dependent upon the presence of the cheerleaders to help them play better, and how the girls just being there greatly improve the players’ performance. I also explored that idea that just being a cheerleader can affect the mindset and attitude of the girls that are actually partaking in the sport, which I think is a stereotype that most of us can identify with from television shows and movies.
On the tab dedicated to the topic “Cheerleading is a Sport,” I went through all of the ramifications that clarify why I think that cheerleading is considered a sport, along with facts and details that helped to back up my argument. Pompons and flirty skirts are only half of what make a girl a cheerleader; it’s about dedication, agility, speed, and most of all: confidence.
My blog although written very informally, is very factual and informative and definitely worth reading to inform yourself and others more about the sport that everybody takes for granted: cheerleading.
